Times Past Calendar Overview

The Times Past calendar evokes a feeling of nostalgia for decades past with recollections of vintage transport from eras gone by, faithfully and realistically portrayed by artists Malcolm Root, Mike Jeffries, David Briggs and Steven Binks. The wonderful paintings trace the development of mechanised transport such as steam engines, lorries, trams, motorboats and ocean liners. Interesting facts about each vehicle are included on each page of this fascinating artistic calendar which will appeal to both enthusiasts of bygone transport and art lovers alike.

September’s picture shows an exciting race to the coast between a charabanc full of happy holidaymakers and a steam train. Charabancs originated in France, the word meaning ‘wagon with benches’. They were originally horse drawn, then motorised and entered from the rear, with up to five rows of seats, open to the air. December’s engaging painting entitled Winter on the Great Eastern depicts a scene on a snowy platform at Marks Tey station, near Colchester as E4 class 2-4-0 No. 62794 prepares for departure. The snow and ice have been ‘treated’ but the temperature is falling rapidly.
