Discovering Wales Calendar Overview

The Discovering Wales calendar features an array of magnificent photographic images highlighting the finest gems of the Welsh landscape- from green uplands and surging rivers to ancient castles and rocky coastal vistas. Inset photos are also included and informative background notes are provided on each page. Days and months appear in both Welsh and English in this bilingual calendar.

An image of Porthdinllaen on the Lleyn in Gwynedd is shown on June’s page. The beach at Porthdinllaen is a long sweeping sandy bay, sheltered in the lee of Carreg Ddu headland. Originally a fishing port, Porthdinllaen is located around a natural harbour at the west end of a bay. There’s an inset photo of a chough, which nests in the nearby cliffs. In December there’s a dramatic photo of Pen-y-Fan in the Brecon Beacons, clad in snow. At 886m, Pen-y-Fan is the highest mountain in southern Britain. Each year more than 250,000 people make the trek to the summit. An inset photo shows the mighty waterfall, Llyn-y-Fan-Fach, also in the Brecon Beacons.
