There’s an outstanding photo of a humpback whale and calf near Amami Oshima Island, Japan. Around this limestone island with beautiful beaches, clear waters and reefs, humpback whales are often spotted offshore. Known for their breaching and lobtailing displays, they migrate from polar waters up to 25,000 km each year to tropical and subtropical waters to breed. Another page features images of Pigeon Point Beach, Tobago and a leatherback turtle. This idyllic white beach fringed with palm trees has a thatch-roofed jetty. The large female turtles carve out nests in the sand, disguise them and return to the sea. A few weeks later the tiny hatchlings emerge from the sand and head for the ocean.
