Northern Pride Calendar Overview

The Northern Pride calendar is a visual journey through the diverse and stunning landscapes of northern England. Contrasting images capture the serenity and charm of locations in the north and are accompanied by informative background notes.

There’s a dramatic view of Lindisfarne Castle, Holy Island, Northumberland in January-February’s image. This 16th century castle, once a fortress, was owned and renovated by Edwin Lutyens from 1901 and a fine walled garden was created by landscape gardener Gertrude Jekyll. It stands atop a volcanic rock crag on Holy Island, reached by a causeway at low water but cut off at high tide. A monastery was founded here by St Aidan in 634AD. Grasmere in Cumbria is featured in another beautiful autumnal image. This small, idyllic lake, nestled between fells and green hills, with one pretty, wooded island, is fed by the River Rothay which flows through Grasmere village into the lake and drains out into Rydal Water.
