November’s images are of a Cozumel Raccoon and Cozumel Island, Mexico, which it inhabits. Also called the pygmy or dwarf raccoon, it is a critically endangered species native only to Cozumel Island on the Yucatan Peninsula. These small raccoons are nocturnal and generally solitary. Their hind feet can rotate up to 180° which enables them to climb trees easily. They mostly inhabit mangrove forests and sandy coastal wetlands in the northwest tip of the island.
