Bow Fiddle Rock, Portknockie, Moray is pictured on one page with a covering of snow. Carved by waves into a natural arch resembling a violin bow, this striking offshore quartzite rock feature is one of many prominent arches, sea stacks and caves along the Moray Firth. It appears white because of the layers of bird droppings, as it is a nesting site for species of gulls, fulmars and cormorants. It is close to the pretty village of Portknockie, with fishermen’s houses standing above cliffs which drop steeply to the harbour below.
