Kindred Spirits Desk Calendar Overview

With a theme of kinship and social communication among animals and birds, the Kindred Spirits desk calendar is sure to appeal to wildlife lovers. Expert and insightful photography reveals the strong bonding instinct common to most of the wild species that inhabit our planet in this heart-warming desk calendar.

January’s photo is of a mother polar bear and her two cubs. Living on the Arctic ice floes in temperatures as low as -55°C, they are adapted to the harsh environment with partially webbed paddle-like paws, to walk and swim easily. Cubs are usually born in pairs in a den, emerging in spring. The mother is extremely protective of her cubs. When ready she leads them to the ice to find food. A flock of red and green macaws in Brazil are shown on the March page. To neutralise toxins from seeds they will often eat clay from exposed riverbanks. These resplendent, inquisitive parrots have a large, hooked bill, adapted to eating fruit, nuts and seeds, vibrant plumage, a long, pointed tail and gripping toes to latch onto branches. They live in tropical rainforests across the Amazon basin.
