Kindred Spirits Calendar Overview

Communication and kinship are the focus of the Kindred Spirits calendar, where wildlife from around the globe is outstandingly photographed in pairs and family groups. The endearing images focus on the strong bonding instinct common to animals while background information about the kinship behaviour and habitat of each animal is also provided.

In one appealing photo in Patagonia, Argentina, three guanacos look curiously at the camera. Related to the camel and the wild ancestor of the domesticated llama, the guanaco has padded toes to help them in their long migrations across the Patagonian steppe and long eyelashes protect their eyes from dust and high winds. They can retain and store moisture from plants to survive. A group of ring-tailed lemurs are depicted in another lovely image. Endemic to the island of Madagascar, where lemurs evolved separately from other primates, ring-tailed lemurs nest together by day, foraging alone at night. They live in large troops where females are dominant, communicating by scent marking, raising their tails and facial expressions.
