In one painting, entitled On Telegraph Hill, we see an early example of an eight-wheeled ERF alloy cabbed tipper climbing the notorious Telegraph Hill on the old A38 road west of Exeter. Built in 1962, it was owned by Frank Tucker of Heavitree, Devon. Its distinctive feature was the use of vertical door handles. In another, a Picon Albion lorry used for the ready-mix concrete trade sweeps under a railway bridge as a passenger train crosses above. This vehicle, with a six-wheeled Albion chassis, had non-reactive suspension on the rear axle, ideal for this trade.
