Rural Heritage Calendar Overview

Developments in farming practice, agricultural techniques and rural traditions are the inspiration for the Rural Heritage calendar. This fascinating, nostalgic calendar features wonderfully detailed paintings by artists Robin Wheeldon, Malcolm Root, Steven Binks and Trevor Mitchell along with informative background facts about the historical context of each picture. Farm animals such as horses and pigs and agricultural machinery such as combines, steam cultivators and traction engines are depicted throughout the decades. Ploughing with horses and tractors, harvesting, dairy farming, animal husbandry and the work of the farrier are all illustrated.

Pictured in September in its orchid white livery, with a huge load of hay, the 46hp David Brown 880 Selectamatic was introduced in 1965, manufactured in Huddersfield, Yorkshire. It had a hydraulic system which allowed the driver to select depth, height and traction control from a single lever. The tractor’s evolution during the 20th century and its different uses in farming is traced in the various makes and models shown in this imaginative calendar.
