Railway Art Calendar Overview

Experience the thrill, power and momentum of classic locomotives from the age of steam in the Railway Art calendar. These nostalgic paintings of iconic trains by renowned railway artist Malcolm Root are sure to appeal not only to railway enthusiasts, but also lovers of fine art. A fascinating paragraph of background information also features alongside each picture.

January’s painting is entitled ‘High Road to Aberfeldy’ The branch line from Ballinluig hrough Grandtully to Aberfeldy north of Perth in Scotland passes through some extremely attractive countryside. Penetrating the light and shade on this occasion is a Macintosh Caledonian 439 Class No. 5200. The painting for June depicts the No. 6000 ‘King George V’ locomotive heading west along the coast between Dawlish and Teignmouth in Devon, with a family walking along the promenade next to it and a young boy trying to outrun the train. The King Class locomotive, designed by Collett, was the most powerful 4-6-0 when introduced in 1927.
