Encounter some of the elusive, rarely spotted wild creatures native to Britain in the British Wildlife slimline calendar, a practical space-saving solution. Animals, birds and butterflies are perceptively photographed in their natural habitat.

One wonderful photo shows an otter by a river. Curious but elusive, otters are graceful, agile swimmers, with strong tails and large lungs to help them to stay underwater in rivers, lakes and coastal areas. They build a holt, a den in a riverbank and enjoy playfully frolicking in and out of the water. Legal protection and cleaner rivers have increased their numbers. In another photo we see a black grouse, a rare game bird which inhabits open moorland and farmland, mainly near the edges of forests. Black grouse pair only when mating, with the females rearing the young. They meet at a communal display area called a lek, where the males perform flamboyant courtship displays, fanning out their huge, lyre-shaped tails, and crowing and hissing loudly.
