Wildlife in Britain Wall Calendar Overview

The Wildlife in Britain calendar reveals close up the elusive wild creatures that we rarely see. Detailed inset photos and fascinating background information about each species native to the UK helps us to find out more about them.

March’s photo shows a fallow deer, found in forests, moorland and parkland across Britain. They have a chestnut coat with white spots and bucks grow broad-bladed antlers from the age of three, which get more branched with age. They rest by day and forage at dawn and dusk, grazing on grass and tree shoots. Ranging over large areas, they can run swiftly at speeds of 48km/ph. In May we see a tawny owl in flight. Britain’s most common owl has a rounded body and head, mottled brown plumage and a distinct hooting call. It hunts small mammals and birds by night, flying silently on bowed wings and roosting in a tree hollow or thick bush by day. It has a round, flat face, big eyes and large ears, hidden behind the face, so is adapted for nocturnal hunting.
