The Natural World Desk Calendar Overview

Focusing on shy and elusive wild creatures from around the world, but often hidden from view, the Natural World desk calendar will delight all wildlife lovers. Each perceptive image shows an animal, bird or butterfly in its natural habitat, bringing us up close to them.

One endearing image is of a hedgehog, which inhabits woods, hedgerows and gardens, hibernating in winter in a nest in a log pile or bush. It has between 5,000 and 7,000 spines, which are hollow hairs, made stiff with keratin. If threatened, it will curl up into a tight prickly ball, its quills protecting it against predators. The rare pine marten features in another splendid photo. Mostly chestnut brown with a yellow bib on the chin and throat and a bushy tail, it is found mainly in remote areas in woodland, conifer plantations and rocky hillsides. It nests in tree-holes and old birds’ nests and feeds on small rodents, eggs, insects and berries.
