Watercolour Britain Calendar Description

David Birtwhistle’s exquisitely-crafted watercolour paintings of the British landscape, towns and villages are a true delight in the Watercolour Britain calendar. The artist captures the flavour of each place in every small detail, and he himself can be spotted some of the paintings, wearing a distinctive red shirt.

This picturesque Kent village of Aylesford is illustrated in one painting. Its stone bridge is one of the oldest bridges over the River Medway, built in 1390 and it has many ancient buildings such as the Norman church and the Little Gem, dating from 1170, the smallest pub in Kent. The seaside resort of Saundersfoot in Pembrokeshire is captured on a windy day in another painting, showing the pier, built as a jetty for the export of anthracite, and children flying a kite on the beach.
