Colin Prior Elementals Desk Calendar Description

Colin Prior’s exceptional landscape photography takes you to some of the truly wild places in Scotland. The Colin Prior Elementals desk calendar presents twelve dramatic images which exemplify the beauty of the wild landscape and are accompanied by the photographer’s personal background notes. Over the past five years, Colin has been creating a new body of work which explores his relationship with the elements. Seeking out what he refers to as ‘undisturbed places’, Colin Prior has photographed in remote mountain corries, in lush Atlantic oak woods and on towering Hebridean sea cliffs.

A strong conservation message underpins his outstanding photography. We are delighted to be the first to bring you a collection of this new work in our 2020 desk calendar. May’s splendid photo is of Loch Maree, considered one of the most beautiful lochs in the Highlands. Its wooded islands contain fragments of the original ancient Caledonian pine forest, the nearest we have left to natural woodland in the UK. April’s photo features a rainbow descending into the sea near the jagged sea stacks off Duncansby Head, lying south east of John O’ Groats. The old red sandstone has been eroded into two sea stacks. Weathering of the adjacent cliffs into terraces and ledges has created the perfect habitat for numerous seabird colonies.
