Rural Britain Wall Calendar Overview

The Rural Britain calendar focuses on the harmony between our diverse British landscape and the wildlife which lives there and which we rarely see. Each alluring image is accompanied by an inset photo of an animal or bird that inhabits that area and informative notes linking each creature to its environment.

One splendid photo shows arable fields below the ancient ridge of Walbury Hill above Inkpen, Berkshire. This 297m hill is the highest natural point in South East England, part of a ridge forming the Berkshire and Hampshire border. It is the site of an Iron Age hill fort, Walbury Camp. On top of the adjoining hill Gallows Down is Combe Gibbet, where a replica stands of a gibbet erected in 1676. The rough grassland is a good habitat for barn owls, featured in the inset photo, as there are plenty of rodents, especially voles. Widespread in Britain, barn owls are mainly nocturnal, hunting on silent wings and swooping down on their prey.
