Pier to Pier Walk in aid of St Helena Hospice
St Helena Hospice’s Flagship event returned at the weekend, to celebrate 40 years of raising funds for the Colchester hospice which holds a dear place in the hearts of staff at Rose Calendars.
The Pier to Pier Walk, took place between the piers of Clacton and Walton-on-the-Naze, with over 600 participants walking either the 7 or 14 miles.
Michael and Elizabeth Rose led the way for the Rose Calendars team, taking their dog Paddy along for the exercise. The atmosphere was buoyant, with an upbeat warm-up at Clacton pier, which saw participants get ready to walk in their teams along the seafront route. Dressed in various outfits, sponsored clothing and costumes, walkers chatted along the way, sharing moving stories of ‘in memory’ walks, and made time to stop at beach huts offering raffles, support and motivation.
The weather was kind (it was mild but not too sunny, if a little overcast), but you don’t want scorching sun for a longish walk, so conditions proved to be perfect! As walkers neared the final bend around the bay out of Frinton, marshalls blew bubbles to get the participants to move through to the final leg, whilst a supporter on a bicycle decorated with flowers and garlands played uplifting music to inspire and motivate!
As corporate sponsors, Rose Calendars take part in events throughout the year in support of the hospice and were delighted to walk and raise funds in this way.
