Fifth Generation Rose Family Member Joins for Work Placement
Recently Rose Calendars were pleased to welcome fifth-generation family member Bertie Rose for a summer work placement. A third-year student at Oxford Brookes University, Bertie is currently completing his degree in International Business having spent the past year working in industrial placements as part of his course.
Returning to the company that has been part of his family’s legacy for over a century, Bertie embraced the opportunity to immerse himself in all aspects of the business. During his time at Rose Calendars, he gained insight into a wide range of departments, including Marketing, Production, Customer Services, Artwork & Prepress, Finance, and HR.
The placement was designed to give Bertie a holistic understanding of how each area contributes to the company’s overall operation — something he found particularly valuable in that he was able to relate the processes and methods used directly to his studies by putting theory into practice. “It’s been fascinating to experience the business from the inside, not just as a member of the family but as someone who’s grown up around it,” Bertie said. “This has given me a real appreciation for the detail and care that goes into every stage of calendar production, and I have learnt so much about the business which was not previously apparent to me.”
During his placement Bertie was instrumental in the implementation of a staff developmental programme with iHASCO, looking at training across the company. His proactive approach helped the team at Rose Calendars to grasp up to the minute relevant modules and complete sessions using iPads, by streamlining internal training processes and support the company’s ongoing commitment to workplace wellbeing.
“We are delighted to have welcomed Bertie to the business,” said Michael Rose, Managing Director at Rose Calendars. “He brought with him fresh ideas, enthusiasm, and a willingness to get stuck in with every department. Seeing the next generation take such an interest in the business is incredibly rewarding for all of us.”
