Longest Serving Member of Staff Retires

Last week Rose Calendars gathered to say a fond farewell to one of our longest serving members of staff.

Sarah Lane has retired after an incredible 35 years of dedicated service in the business. Alongside colleagues in our bindery, her responsibilities have involved finishing a wide variety from simple desk calendar designs, three month to view shipping calendars with hand-glued date pads, personalised wall calendars of every size, to intricate bespoke titles for customers wishing to promote their brands.

Sarah has worked through many production changes over the years, with the introduction of new and more efficient calendar printing and finishing methods, but her attention to detail and precision work has been extremely valuable. She has taken the care and time to ensure every single calendar, diary and notebook under her watchful eye has been bound, glued, trimmed, stitched, folded or inserted to perfection.

More than the work, Sarah has become a reliable and trusted team player, friend and colleague. She has always taken part in every social and fundraising effort, and provided a kind encouragement to others in the company who she has trained well to take over her responsibilities.

Her speciality has been using an automated gluing machine which dates back to a time even before Sarah worked for Rose Calendars! The intricate work involves laying strips of the printed material onto the rollers, ensuring no glue is transferred anywhere other than the surface of the paper. This is then applied to the date pad, header board, shaped element of a calendar, or case of a notebook or diary precisely in the correct position. It’s mesmerising to watch this being done and a source of amazement for anyone lucky to watch the process in action. This unique and highly skilled activity is just one of the many production techniques setting Rose Calendars apart.

Sarah is taking the opportunity to spend more time with her family and moves to a well-earned chapter of life where she hopes to enjoy the winter months especially, not tied to the long seasonal hours requisite in a calendar company! Her loyal dedication is greatly appreciated. She will be missed by everyone at Rose Calendars and we wish her well.
